A Few of My Favorite Things

Papers are signed!

Yesterday I was called in to sign papers. Larry signed a power of attorney for me to sign for him so that he and our son in law could head to Oregon and get our things out of storage. We felt it was critical for them to go this weekend as this nice weather we have been having just isn't going to continue forever. But I never dreamed I would be signing his name like this every place his signature was needed:

"Lawrence Marchant by Cynthia Marchant as attorney in fact"

Plus I then dated each time not to mention signing my own name! It took forever! I felt bad for the title co. lady who was working with me. Then I had to go back in today and resign two pages because I went below a certain line!!! The lady said in all her 20 years of working there she has never had a loan company be so nitpicky! But it was just a few minutes from the trailer so not a big deal and the loan has already been funded so it didn't slow anything up. Our agent seems to think I will be getting the keys this afternoon!! I sure hope so because if not today then it will be Tuesday since Monday is a federal holiday. It will also mean finding a place to park the moving truck as well as a few extra days of rental!! Crossing my fingers...

I have decided to stay at Shelly's for the few days that the guys are gone. It's just easier with Sage. I can't be as dedicated as Larry who has her outside and to the doggy park at 6am! At Shelly's I can let her out into the back yard!

One more visit....

We stopped by the house one more time before we have the final walk through on Tuesday at 2pm. Our son in law has never gotten to go in the house and since he was off work we called and got the okay to go in. We only called because as they are winding down there isn't always someone at the house working. The builder and developer have been awesome about us coming and going as we please. The cleaning crew is coming in this afternoon and I bet by this evening it will really look spiffy! They had cleaned the garage and I would sure like to know what product they used on the floor. That cement was sparkling and it also smelled really good! Here is the last batch of pics I took:

This is my laundry room. It's another pass through to the garage which I really don't care for but this one is wider and a bit roomier than the one we had in our other house. Plus Larry will be using the kitchen door to go to his shop so I am hoping there won't be quite as much traffic. We went with a granite counter and the pics just don't do it justice.

Here it is all finished. They even put a crown molding all along the top of the cabinets that I forgot to get a pic of. Little touches like that sure do make a difference. The flooring in here is 12X12 tile in a neutral cream/buff color. Next is the master bath. Today is the first time we have seen it completely done.

Walk in shower. The door is really cool as it swings both directions and there is no latch. We had the corner shelves added for shampoo, etc.

The girls will miss our big Jacuzzi we had but I am very much looking forward to having nice hot baths in this tub! That is one thing I have dearly missed these almost 2 months in the trailer.

The next pics are just the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms, which are identical. Larry and I are each going to take one for our offices/craft room for me. They aren't huge, just 11X11 but both have big walk in closets, bigger than our master closet at the other house!

And the kitchen! It's still not quite done. They put the crown molding trim on top but there is also a really neat bottom trim and I guess they ran short. But other wise it's pretty much done. ALL the lower cabinets have slide out shelves!! And the drawers shut by themselves. It's so cool! I just hope I can remember that and not go slamming them shut!

And the corner cabinets have really nice lazy susans that are so much nicer that anything I have ever had before. I usually can't stand those.

That's it for today. I'm excited for the walk through to see it all finished and cleaned up! We are heading back to Shelly's this evening for pizza, White Christmas and gingerbread house making!

Pyramid Lake

Things are kind of quiet this week waiting for things to be wrapped up with the house.  Yesterday was supposed to be the appraisal but we haven't heard if it actually took place.  We stopped by the house but no one was there to let us in.  The builder and developer have been awesome about us coming to the house whenever we want.  But since no one was there we decided to take a drive to Pyramid Lake.  The crown jewel of this area is Lake Tahoe of course, but Pyramid Lake is a close second.  It's located on the Paiute Indian Reservation.  It's home to a breed of fish call Cui-Ui (pronounced Qwee Wee). 

Larry helped move these fish to their spawning grounds as part of his job when we lived in Nevada 8 years ago.  This lake was a favorite fishing spot for Larry and back then it was a 2 hour drive one way.  Yesterday we timed it at 30 minutes!  I'm looking forward to going out on the boat too.  I love lake boating but was never comfortable on the Columbia River.  Think I went out twice and once was to place my dad's ashes in the river! 

The rock you see in the water is called Pyramid Rock.  I can't wait to take the boat over there and get some close up pics! 

The spot where we are standing to take these pics is a small pull off with a covered picnic table.  As I was making my way back to the car I noticed something in the gravel.  When I got on top of it I saw it was a ring!

Isn't it pretty?  It's opal inlay, ammy and I'm thinking white topaz for the smaller stones.  It's set in silver and the band is a bit bent up.  It's in serious need of a good cleaning too.  I went on Craig's List to see if anyone posted it missing and nothing dating back to early November.  I will place a found post and see what happen's.  On the way up to Pyramid lake you go by a place where they take all the wild horses the BLM rounds up.  They call it an adoption center but I have to really wonder how many are actually adopted.  To me it's kind of a sad place but I was impressed with the alfalfa hay they are getting to eat.  They don't get that on the open range.  I have had the pleasure of seeing them in the wild on 2 occasions and it's pretty cool.  My mom and stepdad used to love to go out onto the Black Rock Desert north of Pyramid Lake and they got to see herds of them from time to time.  Not sure how many are left in the wild.

That was our day yesterday.  Not sure what's on tap for today except maybe hit a carpet place to see about having an area rug made.  Just not seeing any area rugs we like for our living room. 

Long time, no blogging!

It's been so long since I last posted!  I blame Facebook a lot for that but also my little mini computer that I brought with us has been giving me lots of problems.  I think it needs to see a Geek once we get settled. 

Hard to believe we have been living in the trailer for almost 2 months.  It has really gone by quickly.  I am posting more trailer related things on the other blog if you care to take a peek.  We took a couple days to get settled and then we were off and running looking at houses.  Last March on a trip down here we used a new realtor who we really liked a lot.  We stayed in touch, keeping him posted as to how our home selling was going.  He was ready to roll once we gave him a call and he took us out several times that first week looking at as many as 6 houses at a time.  Then on our own we did dozens of drive bys ruling homes out that we either just didn't like or that didn't have decent RV parking.  Not only did we want parking for the trailer but for the boat too.  Plus Larry wanted room for a shop.  Last March we saw a new construction, finished home in this neat little neighborhood.  That home sold but there was another new one finished plus another that was almost done.  Well the finished one would not work for the trailer but the other one would and it was 10K less.  But I didn't like what they did with the master bath.  Our agent set up a meeting with the builder and devoloper and we were able to hammer out a deal a few days later that had them redo'ing parts of the master bath.  This house was to the point that we could pick out all the finishes; flooring, granite, etc.  Our closing is on the 28th of this month and so far everything has been going so smoothly.  The only thing we are waiting on is getting under contract for the 20' X 30" shop we will have built.  There are pluses and minus' when buying new construction. There's very little to do inside but lots to do outside; concrete work, gutters and getting the back yard in.  But on the upside it will be how we want it which is to have very minimal yardwork.  Here are some pics of the new house:

It's a stucco home although the shop we are having built will not be stucco.

The shop will be directly back from this RV driveway.  We will be having a cement pad poured with power and a dump next to the shop.  We want it so that if we have overflow company it can be easily used in this spot.  It should be perfect!  Can't wait for the shop and pad to be done.  They are telling us 2-3 months depending on weather.
